Oakville Sunrise Inspiration

Sunrise has become part of my routine. Originally a forced habit due to early swim starts for a teenager over a period of 10 years, but now it’s just for me. Without doubt, it makes it’s way into my paintings..this time of day has a steady and strong influence on my work.

Have you been to the lake here in Oakville to watch the rising sun? All along the lake, we have public parks and walkways, places you can take it in, quietly and away from the sometimes-gaggle of people on the beach or at the pier.

Reliable, on time, and always different, the sunrise can be spectacular. For me it’s one of the most grounding experiences - living away from family there’s always a sense of distant longing that’s soothed at little by the reliable appearance of the sun. Knowing it’s that same glowing ball of fire that’s keeping us all here, and connected, is a comfort.
