Blue Monday?
I’m never so sure about this one…
Today is the Monday in January that was determined (in 2005) to be the gloomiest, most depressing day of the year. Gosh. If there was ever a way to literally suck the joy from life, this is a good start! I get it, days are shorter in the Northern Hemisphere, the after effects of indulgent spending, eating, partying in December can catch up with you..but ..but…if you go outside there’s always a bit of magic.
Today I went to the lake (minus 20C) for sunrise, knowing that the big freeze is on it’s way. Love this time of year - the water slows and swells and over the next few weeks the coast will be engulfed with thick ice as it grows. Today is probably the last time I’ll be able to climb on the rocks and be right by the water - so goodbye rocks for now! See you in April..in the meantime I’ll enjoy the clear cold mornings and keep my eye out for the Snowy Owl I met at the edge of the pier last year. More on that next time.
