Secret Garden @Art In My Garden

What wasn’t to love? Oakville at its best - celebrating local talents and inspiring everyone to go a little slower to appreciate what we have right here, at home. It really was bonkers - the week before I hardly slept as I was worried about the weather.  In the end it was a lovely dry day - that was 100% success before our first visitor arrived!

In all, we had a record number of over 50 artists at 28 + homes in the heart of picturesque, historic Oakville. Well over 1500 enthusiastic visitors enjoyed paintings, textiles, mosaics, letterpress activities, and captivating sculptures, with local homeowners and St. Jude’s Church parishioners contributing their own artistic flair and bell ringing too (it’s called Campanology, btw!).

What was all the excitement this year for my showcase?  Well..My Secret Garden collaboration project had the spotlight and was quite the interactive showpiece.  Visitors couldn’t get enough of my vintage chair lovingly reborn with a rich velveteen print of my original painting. They were perplexed that it was a soft chair, not a painted one! The perfect seat depth and back and its rich velveteen offered a moment of respite for tired feet.

Read more about my collaboration with local textile designer Deb Richmond on my separate Secret Garden article.
