Art can offer a moment of respite

..or bring energy that sparks conversation and intrigue within us.

Welcome

I’m Rachel, an Irish-Sri Lankan born and raised in Ireland, studied in England and found my first job at a desk in The City of London. Fast forward and I eventually settled with my family in Toronto.

Canada is where I reconnected with my creative side and an opportunity to follow this passion full time.

I love to recharge alone, a luxury in my past but something I make time for these days. I find comfort in solitude and quiet spaces, love to listen, read, think and watch the world.

You’re invited…

…to pause. Maybe you’ll simply lose yourself for a moment and relax or perhaps it will spark a thought that leads to conversation. Every title tells a story.

I never have a strict plan – I intuitively build layers of colour and texture and aim to capture a sense of light in my work.

I imagine mountains and distant horizons. The invigorating ebb and flow of our oceans. Wild weather. Countless greens and the softness of dappled light amongst the safety of trees. The gentle hush of morning by the water . Stillness at sunrise.

Artist Statement

I am captivated by how light changes the energy and colours across our landscapes.  I come from a place near the sea, hills and mountains with big skies that move and change. These days I live by the water.

The natural landscapes of my past, my present and perhaps my future somehow make their way into each painting.

I use colour and texture layered to capture a sense of light or movement.  My work can take the shape of abstracted landscapes or places; they are not necessarily places I have been to, but are more imagined far-away places in my mind.

The art you choose..

..will always be perfect - it can evoke emotion and will have an unseen way to stay with you, which is a real gift; it can be a homecoming for your soul.
